Islamic Republic is dying, long live a soviet government!

Last week, the regime’s supreme leader Khamenei convoked a meeting with President Rouhani and the cabinet. The meeting discussed economic problems and social crises that have panicked the regime’s officials.

The escalation of the economic crisis as well as mass protests across the country had compelled Khamenei to form a supreme economic council in order to coordinate the regime’s policies. Apparently, the formation of this council, where pro-Rouhani elements have a majority, actually give a greater role to Rouhani. However, this could not prevent the conservative Council of Guardians from rejecting Rouhani’s bills for joining the international anti-money laundering convention.

Whether the bills are approved or no, the economic and political crises are so deep that the Islamic regime can only count its last days. The regime’s tactics can at best increase make life a bit longer.

Health Minister Hassan Hashemi said last week: “The storm is imminent, we must realise that the crisis is serious”. Another cabinet member asked for the formation of a group in the cabinet to cope with the crisis.

Rouhani has promised that the people would not suffer from any problems regarding energy, transportation and staple goods. But this is just an expression of inability of the regime. The people already face problems in providing their needs. A glance at the current circumstances shows that the Islamic regime does not have any means to tackle the crisis. Despite its huge oil revenues and release of frozen assets from the West, the economic recession has escalated and the inflation rate has increased.

The Islamic Republic is dying but the important question is that what is going to replace it. To answer this question, one must say what government and relations can resolve these problems and satisfy the needs of workers and toilers. The working people’s demands are job, social security, housing and freedom. Undoubtedly, no bourgeois force has a solution to these demands because the current problems have roots in the governing capitalists system, and the deep class differentiation is a result of the capitalist relations. Only the soviet government of workers and toilers and socialism can put an end to these problems and present a way out of the crisis.
